modern art from metropolis

Modern art began with the Impressionists in Paris in the mid 19th century. Bored with the traditional approach to art, these were mainly painters and included:

  • Modern artClaude Monet
  • Edgar Degas
  • Camille Pissarro
  • Pierre Auguste Renoir, and
  • Alfred Sisley

The majority of their work was based on day to day life and landscapes.

During the 20th century the term modern art became an all-embracing label for many different styles of painting and sculpture - and eventually, towards the end of the century, included mixed media, video, installations and most controversial of all, conceptual art.

The art landscape has now been liberated by the modern art movement and an environment has been created where any and all styles of abstract and contemporary art can thrive and flourish.

The place of abstract digital art, created on computer, is now firmly established and if one can imagine it, one can create it.
